Joseph Houston and William Whelton
Producer | Hope Mill Theatre
Hope Mill Theatre was the dream of couple Joseph Houston and William Whelton who after a career in Musical Theatre and living in London, became inspired by the highly regarded Off West End theatres and the high-quality work they were creating. With the growing theatre industry blossoming in Manchester and no medium sized venues, they set up and established Hope Mill Theatre in November 2015.
The theatre has now been open just over one year and has already made its mark on Manchester theatre map with Joseph and William being awarded the Hospital Club Award for contribution to Theatre and Performance, beating theatre heavyweights Kenneth Branagh and Rufus Norris. The venue was also nominated for The Stage Fringe Theatre of the Year 2016. The venue teamed up with Katy Lipson of Aria Entertainment with their first season of in house musicals which included Parade (nominated for Manchester Theatre Award) and most recent production of Hair which was nominated for a M.E.N Citylife Award and later this year will transfer to The Vaults Theatre, London.
Katy Lipson is now resident producer at Hope Mill and this year they have announced a very ambitious season of musicals including the Manchester Premiere of Pippin, U.K Premiere of Little Women and this Premiere of Yank! The Off-Broadway Hit. Hope Mill Theatre continues to host emerging Manchester companies, small touring companies and offers a varied programme of work for its audiences. The theatre recently teamed up with emerging theatre company Play With Fire and Aria Entertainment to open Hope Studios - offering quality, affordable rehearsal suites in the heart of the City’s Northern Quarter.
